Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the most prestigious awards presented by the RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation at its National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards. The award is presented on an ad hoc basis, with usually not more than two such presentations in each decade.

At the 50th Anniversary of the Awards Ceremony in January 2011, Lifetime Achievement Awards for 2010 were presented to two of Jamaica’s most iconic sports personalities, Merlene Ottey, the great sprint queen and Mike McCallum, Jamaica’s most successful boxer on the international stage and first ever world champion.

Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Marva Bernard, OD, the former netball boss, who received the 2015 award and Dr the Hon. Michael Fennell, Chairman of the Sports Foundations Selection Committee who was presented with a special award, The Global Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Mr. Fennell was head of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) for 40 years (1977-2017) and was President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CFG) for four edition of the Games, from 1998 in Kuala Lumpur until 2010 in Delhi.
