Sportswoman of the Year 2012 – Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce


Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce returned to top form in 2012 with a bang. First the 2011 100 metres World Champion exploded at the Jamaica Championship in the 100 metres final, winning in a national record 10.70 seconds, a time which made her the 4th fastest female 100 metres runner ever. At the London Olympic Games the “pocket rocket” retained her 100 metres title becoming the third woman and first non-American to do so. In the process she also became only the second woman to hold World Championship and Olympic titles in the 100 metres at the same time. She then earned silver in the Olympic 200 metres (PB 22.09) and joined her teamamtes in taking another silver in the 4X100 metres relay, this time in a National record 41.41 seconds. Fraser-Pryce won two Diamond League 100 metres races, including the Diamond League final in Zurich, en route to being crowned Diamond League Women’s 100 metres champion.
