Chris Gayle – END OF AN ERA
Tajay Gayle, the Jamaican Champion, won several global long jump meets in 2019 before taking the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Peru in a National Record 8.32 metres.
Gayle who had several runner-up finishes on the Diamond League circuit then had a magnificent jump of 8.69 metres to upset the field and take the gold medal at the World Championships in Doha. He became Jamaica’s first gold medallist, male or female, in an outdoor global long jump event. He also became the 10th longest jumper of all times, it was also the longest jump seen in a World Athletics Championships final for 24 years and the longest jump in world athletics in 10 years.
