Sportsman of the Year 2012 – Usain Bolt, OJ

Usain Bolt achieved his self-imposed target becoming a “living legend” in 2012 despite a shaky start to his season. Bolt was soundly beaten at the Jamaica Championships in both the 100 metres and 200 metres, leading some pundits to declare Yohan Blake Olympic favourite for both events. At the Olympic Games Bolt proved them wrong, first winning the 100 metres in the most watched Olympic finals ever and in the process setting a new Olympic Record (9.63 seconds), before completing the double with an imperious victory in the 200 metres. The victories made Bolt the first person (male of female) to ever defend double Olympic sprint titles. Bolt added icing to the cake in the 4X100 metres, where he joined his teamates in defending his third Olympic title with a blistering World Record 36.84 clocking.
